Bad Breath

The occurrence of bad breath can be one of the most inhibiting and potentially embarrassing causes in an individual’s lack of confidence and self esteem.

More than just a matter of personal hygiene, bad breath can occur for a variety of reasons including:

  • Build up of plaque and tartar
  • Gum disease
  • Use of denture harbouring bacteria
  • Tooth decay

Essentially the primary cause for bad breath comes from bacteria, which live in abundance within even the healthiest mouths.

Prime breeding grounds for bacteria come in the recesses of the mouth and within the areas where plaque and tartar build up.

Regular and consistent cleaning of teeth, tongue, gums and oral appliances can all help to reduce the occurrence of bad breath, with modern mouthwashes also helping to combat some of the more moderate symptoms.

Regular dental checkups and visits to the hygienist, to have teeth scaled and properly cleaned, can be of the greatest help in removing bad breath and also serves to prevent a multitude of additional oral problems.
